DAGEKI WORLD KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

RULES – ELITE FIGHTING – KNOCKDOWN

An Elite Contact Karate Fight (Knockdown – no protection gear) involves two experienced adult opponents who may hit each other as far as they respect the rules in effect at the Dageki 2024 – as described below.

 

  1. ELIGIBILITY
    • Men and women karate fighters, 18 years old and over, 4th Kyu to Black Belt, assigned to divisions based on gender, weight and age.
    • A fighter cannot be enrolled in both Elite Fighting (Knockdown) and Fighting with protection gear.
    • A white uniform (dogi) is mandatory.
  1. MINIMUM PROTECTION GEAR – Provided by each fighter
    • Mouthpiece: highly recommended
    • Groin cup: mandatory for male fighters
    • Breast protector (cups worn inside the uniform): mandatory for female fighters
    • Prohibited gear:
      • Head gear, gloves, shin pads, chest protector
      • Wrist and ankle wraps (except in case of injury inflicted during a fight at the Championship)
      • Spectacles, watches, jewels
  1. REFEREEING TEAM
    • A refereeing team consists of 1 center referee who supervises the fight, 4 corner judges who evaluate the fighters, 2 timekeepers and 1 scorekeeper (fight sequence).
    • The Refereeing Committee receives the coach’s grievances and can intervene with the center referee.
    • The center referee can consult with the corner judges, the timekeepers, the scorekeeper and the Refereeing Committee before announcing a decision.
  1. FIGHT REGULATION TIME
    • Masters Divisions – 40 years old and over
      • One 2-minute fight
      • In case of a draw: One 2-minute extension fight – Decision
    • Qualifiers – Women and Men – 18-39 years old
      • One 2-minute fight
      • In case of a first draw: 2-minute extension fight
      • In case of a second draw: weigh-in of the fighters:
        • If the weight discrepancy is greater than 11lbs/5kg (men) or 9lbs/4kg (women), the lightest fighter wins;
        • Otherwise, last 2-minute extension fight – Decision
    • Quarter finals, Semifinals, Finals – Women and Men – 18-39 years old
      • One 3-minute fight
      • In case of a first draw: 2-minute extension fight
      • In case of a second draw: second 2-minute extension fight
      • In case of a third draw: weigh-in of the fighters:
        • If the weight discrepancy is greater than 11lbs/5kg (men) or 9lbs/4kg (women), the lightest fighter wins;
        • Otherwise, last 2-minute extension fight – Decision
  1. LEGAL TECHNIQUES
    • To the legs (above the knees): circular kicks and knee kicks
    • To the body: open hand strikes, punches, elbow strikes, knee kicks and kicks (straight and circular techniques)
    • To the head: kicks and knee kicks (straight and circular techniques)
  1. ILLEGAL TECHNIQUES
    • Kicks to the knee joints and below the knees
    • Open hand strikes, punches, elbow strikes and head-butt to the face, head or neck
    • All strikes – using hand, fist, elbow, knee, foot – to the groin or back.
    • Grabbing
    • Repeated pushes of the opponent
    • Refusal to fight
  1. COACHES
    • Only duly identified coaches will have access to the preparation and competition area.
    • One or two coaches can sit near the tatami (fighting area), on the side of their fighter.
    • No coach has access to the tatami.
    • Only one coach may bring grievances to the Refereeing Committee in case of conflict.
    • No coach should argue with volunteers at the table if there is a problem.
    • Failure to comply with these regulations or bad behavior by the coach could result in the disqualification of his competitor.
